E-votional - What Mirror Image?
October 23, 2002
Verse:

"But be doers of the word, and not merely hearers who deceive themselves.”

James 1:22 (NRSV)

Thought:

Each morning we spend time getting ready, looking in the mirror and making sure our appearance matches our needs for the day. Shaving, brushing teeth, fixing hair, basically undoing what a night of tossing and turning as well as, for men, the facial hair growth. Women use the mirror to aid in the application of make-up. Adolescence youth use to the mirror to look themselves over critically. The mirror offers a look at "who we are" and helps us to move to the place of "who we want to be"

Hear the Good News, Christ helps us to find out "who we are" and move us to the place of "who we want to be". When we hear the story of Christ, we are given a glimpse of "who we are to be" and "who we are". When we respond to the story of Christ and the Good News, we begin to live the transformation of the Gospel. To hear the story of Christ and not respond is like going to work without a shower, without dressing appropriately, without brushing your teeth, but most of all, without acknowledging who you really are and who you are called to be.

Prayer:

Gracious Father, like clockwork, I wake up each morning, ready for the day to happen. I prepare myself for what the world might throw my way, yet I do not always start with You. I don't quite know why, only that I do wish to start my day with thoughts of You. Please, I pray, prepare me for the day to come, that each challenge and celebration is met with You by my side. Thank You for all that You have done in my life and all You will continue to do, for ask this through Christ, my Lord and Savior. Amen.
