VERSE:
Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to
help those who are being tempted.
-- Hebrews 2:18, New International Version

THOUGHT:
Temptation is something that surrounds us. Locally, Foley's
is having another big sale, that commercials on the radio and TV both call us
to come on in and buy. The table that will be before us as guests
arrive, at parties, in our own homes or with friends are done up in such a
tempting way. Then there is that ever present anxiety that goes along
with the holidays, it changes even the meekest to the most aggressive.
Then in the business world, drive for that bonus, or the idea of looking our
only for No. 1. Face it, temptation is everywhere and so much more.
But hear the Good News, Jesus was tempted like we are! He
suffered like we do! God in his grace made sure that we have someone in
heaven who knows what it is like to face mortality. By this same
experience, we can be assured of God's strength and peace during any of our
trying and tempting times. Aren't you thankful that Jesus knew mortality
and now is in a position to redeem, to bless, and to ultimately help us
mortals? Stand firm in the faith that by looking at each temptation, one
at a time, we can by God's STRENGTH and PEACE, persevere each and every
situation.
PRAYER:
Loving and Almighty God, I know you know me and what is best for
me. But Father, I'm even more confident in your care and understanding
because Jesus shared in our wrestling match with mortality. Thank you
Jesus for pleading my cause at the Father's right hand. I ask for the
Father's continued grace in your name, Lord Jesus. Amen.
