VERSE:
When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.

THOUGHT:
Basically there are two types of laws; The Law regarding speeding and the Law of Gravity. The first is a series of do's and don'ts, the way things ought to be. The second is different in that these laws are the way things are.
Hear the Good News, Jesus came to share with the world that was and the world to come what the Law of God is about. God's Law is more like the second. The first type, the laws that are "ought to be" can be debated and never reach a definitive decision one way or another. Further, these are laws we make to "try" to bring order to the chaos we have brought with previous laws and realities we have made or brought about. The second type of law, God's law is how it is. Take God's Law of Love for example, (1 John 3:14), he who does not live in love remains dead. That, like the law of gravity can be argued, but once you try it out, you find what the truth is.
PRAYER:
Holy God, thank You for the simplicity of Your Law. Though we tend to find ways to make the simple complicated, have patience with us, as we are learning. And Your messenger, thank you fro Him, as he has made the difference in my life. I do not know where I would be without Jesus. Lost is the first thought that comes to mind. I have learned from Him and hope my character reflects His presence in my life. Continue to guide me and along my journey, picking me up when I stumble, so I might be able to share the Great News of You to others. Thank you for sending Jesus to be my teacher, my guide, my Lord, and my Savior. It is in his name, Jesus, that I pray. Amen.
