VERSE:
But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of
Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the
surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord...

THOUGHT:
Such interesting words. Those things I had and found so
important now are not. I wonder why? If you look at the previous
verses and the ones that follow, it seems as though all that Paul had in front
of him, blocked his focus on Christ.
Hailey, my Golden Retriever, is
a smart dog. Too smart for her own good. She has a good nose too.
One of the ways in which I have trained her is with dog biscuits. I hold
the dog biscuit in my hand, use my hand to direct her and after she
"learns" the command, she gets the biscuit. Of the things she
follows is praise, love, attention, but when I really need her attention, her
stomach is something I can always count on.
Hear the Good News, Christ is
better than any "biscuit" we could ever want or need. He meets
our inner most needs and is present in our life. But here is the thing,
you have got to look at Him, to Listen to Him and to allow Him into your life.
More over, He knows what it is that really gets our attention, so be ready.
PRAYER:
Almighty and Faithful Father, today is the day. Today is
the day I want to say thank You for all You have done. For the ways in
which You have gotten my attention, shown me Your love and been present in my
life. The gift that I offer You, while imperfect and needing some work,
well a lot of work, is myself. By Your grace, create a
place within my heart that You will dwell within me. And as I encounter
Christ help me to prepare a place for Him. Allow Him to be my focus all
of my days. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
