Verse:
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock.
Thought:
Until I was engaged, I did not understand the term like I do today.
That is not to say I understand it in a negative sense, just that my own understanding expanded.
You see, I thought it was about melons, you know, honeydew melons. I love to eat them in the
morning, especially when ripe and in season, they are sweet, yet not too sweet. Then came my
education, far and wide, I was told what honey do's really were. Things would not be the same
without them, the "to do's" in life and in the family.
Hear the Good News, we are given another "to do list" as Christians, one in which we are certainly
not asked more than we can really do, but one that is vital to the Gospel.
Love one another: The Great Commandment
Make Disciples: The Great Commission
Serve one another: The Great Commitment
As we hear, we are called to action, to be doers of the word. As Jesus taught, he ended this
particular time by concluding on the importance of not only hearing and soaking up the information,
but doing something about it. We are good to be informed about life and living, we are good to
observe our setting, but we must also respond to the call God has for us. The commandment, the
commission and the commitment have all been placed before us. It is now time to respond.
Prayer:
Gracious Father, it is so easy for me to sit back and listen. I eagerly soak up your teaching and inspiration, but I hesitate to respond at times. Please inspire me to follow through with what you place before me, my calling, my task, my honey-do. Thank You for all You have done and all You will continue to do, for I ask this through Christ, my Lord and Savior. Amen.
