Verse:
“Be still, and know that I am God! I am exalted among the nations, I am exalted in the earth.”
Thought:
Measured and guarded, yet impossible to control or steal, time is
something we feebly try to claim for our own life. Seconds can make the difference
between making a light or being stuck in the middle of traffic, making a meeting or
entering awkwardly after it has already begun. At home it can mean the
difference
between having a child laughing of crying. Time now controls us. Challenged with
faster download times, calculators, computers, TiVo and DVD's allow us to do more with
less time. Somehow, we do not have more time. Family responsibilities, extra-curricular
activities, hobbies and service responsibilities eat up more and more time. The
stress of needing to do more because we can is stifling. We find our strength and
awareness diminishing. Even today you may struggle to find time for God. Time for
God?! Yes... Him too. Could it be with everything going on in our life we have lost
touch with life, with living, with being?
Hear the Good News, God does so much in our life, we must stop to see, smell, taste, touch
and hear Him. In our haste to suck the marrow out of life, we have lost touch of his activity
in our life. As we attempt to take control over our life, we gather all we can, holding it
close, hoping to stay in control, when the truth is we never had it to begin with. When
things go wrong, we lose hope and do not understand. God is the one in control and He is the
one doing the gathering. The Bible says, "God is our protection and strength. He
always helps
in times of trouble.” Time is not ours, it is God's, so let us give our stressful need for
control to God and be freed to be amazed at all God does and will continue to do in our life
Prayer:
Gracious God, You are my strength and refuge, thank You. Please help me to let go of all that holds me back from You. Thank You for all You have done in my life and all You will continue to do, for I come to You through Jesus Christ, my Lord, my Savior! Amen.
Grace & Peace
David Banks
