E-votional
– The
Servant
April 12,
2001
Verse:
"For He
grew up before him like a young plant, and like a root out of dry ground;
he had no form or majesty that we should look at him, nothing in his
appearance that we should desire him."
-Isaiah 53:2

Thought:
Nothing
is more lonely than not being known. Either you are ignored or
misunderstood. No one to know your heart or your dreams, no one to
know your passions, your joys or your fears. There you are, on an
island of life, by yourself. Sure at first, it might even be something
you long for, but after a while, you will want more. We have so much
within us. Such beauty, such creativity, opportunities to bond and
connect with others, these are all gifts of God. another gift we have
is wanting to be there for others.
That part of us which cries out when we see another being oppressed,
misused, ignored. Relationship, at the heart of our very being.
Hear the Good News, God
desires so much to be in relationship with us, that He sent a servant into
this world to help us connect with Him. With the beauty of simplicity,
the Servant entered into the lives of those around Him, teaching and
transforming people, in hopes they might become closer to God. And
when simplicity did not work, He did the most complicated thing known to
man, He gave his life up for us. An offering, intercession for one and
fro all. An offering for you an offering for me. How much
God must want us to know Him. How much God wants to know us.
Prayer:
Oh Father, at
times I feel like the island I float upon floats away from even me. I
know what I want, who You are and the relationship we have, yet, I lose
sight and sound of your presence. Know I know it must be me who goes
in a different direction. Moreover, even though I do forget about You,
it is You that beckons me to return. I turn my heart to You with a
resounding thanks and sing Your praise for the love You have shown.
Thank You Father, for all You have done in my life and all You will continue
to do.
Amen.
