Guide

Verse:
“The
LORD will guide you continually, and satisfy your needs in parched places,
and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a
spring of water.
-Isaiah 58:11 (NRSV)

Thought:
Jumping
out of the bus, to wanting to wait for the guide, I began to climb.
five minutes into the journey, I started to think I had made a
mistake. I had the opportunity to make a trip to the caves at Qumran.
I had jumped the gun and now, there were no caves around me, I had climbed
up the face of the cliff, "looking" for caves that I had no idea
as to what they looked like. I was searching.
I was lost. It was getting dark. Time to go back. I missed
it. I had gone to Israel and missed Qumran.
Hear the Good News, God is
a guide who wants to lead us in our life. And even though we
might jump the gun, lose focus and/or patience in our guide, God waits.
Yes, I had gone to Qumran, I had passed up the caves itself, I missed them
because I thought I knew what the cave would look like. Oddly enough I
did not know what they looked like. Can you believe that? Two
years later, I was able to make another trip to Israel, and yes this time I
waited for my guide, and Yes, this time I was able to climb through and
experience all but one cave. Thanks to my guide, I was able to live a
dream. I did not leave wanting, or with regret, I left filling
fulfilled.
Prayer:
We
have such an imagination, such a desire and drive that sometimes it gets in
our way, yet You, oh Lord, You patiently wait for us to turn back to You.
When we are looking for those special things in our life, we need you to be
there with us. Maybe we seek a person, a job, a situation, please be
with us as we make and take this journey. When
we focus on You, our life is filled with blessings. Let today be one
of those days. Thank
You for all You have done in my
life, and all You will continue to do, through Christ our Lord I pray.
Amen.
