- Power In The Word
March 15, 2002
Verse:
"When he had said this,
he cried with a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out!"
John
11:43 (NRSV)
Thought:
Was it love? How about power?
Could it have been the relationship? What ever it was, when Jesus spoke things
happened. Infirmaries were healed, and now, here with Lazarus, even the dead
rise again. There is more to it, more to the act of talking, the power of The
Word.
Hear the Good News, in everything
that Jesus did, his miracles, his decisions, He went to God first. This is the
Power of The Word. He was one with God. Most of the time we seek to do God's
will, and at the same time infuse our will upon God. We think what we know or
what we want is in fact God's primarily because we think there is more power
in our words than in God's. How is it that we listen for God? First, through
Scripture, this is God's word before us. Then we use what has been, what we
have experienced, and what it is our heart, guided by the Holy Spirit. When we
listen for God's help and direction, we must also understand who we are. It is
easy to listen and not understand our self. Jesus knew who he was and whose he
was. Because of His self awareness, lives were changed. Because of the Power
of His Word, I too am changed.
Prayer:
Gracious God, You chose me. Why, who
knows, yet You did pick me. Allow me to remain focused on You. Thank You for
all that You have done in my life and all You will continue to do, for ask
this through Christ, my Lord and Savior. Amen.
