E-votional - Like a Child
April 29, 2002
Verse:
"Like newborn infants, long for the pure, spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow into
salvation—if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good."
1 Peter 2:2-3 (NRSV)
Thought:
Without and real understanding, newborns naturally seek a suckle that they
might be fed. Instinctually, they search for the source of food. It becomes such a foundation to their life, pacifiers
and fingers, the friendly thumb, offers security for every child at least once. They know what is they need.
Hear the Good News, we know what it is that we need, and it is Christ. Our life
is a journey toward a deeper understand of who God is and what it is that He want from and for us. Is it really that simple?
Yes. Sunday during confirmation, there were tears in the eyes of not only the parents and grandparents, but in the eyes of
some of the confirmands too. Why? Because they got it, that longing in their life, they found it and the search for the
"what" is over, and the journey begins. During the service, we distributed a brand of chewing gum called Ice Breakers. They
great thing about them is they continue to bring you bursts of flavor, not just the first time you bite into them, but on and
on and on. We too, spiritual infants, need that spiritual milk, on and on and on, not just the first time. It feed us and
helps us to grow. Feed yourself, be fed by the Spirit. Don't stop. On and on and on.
Prayer:
Gracious God, feed me. Sustain me by your love and grace. Transform me from the child I am into the
person, the Disciple it is that You have called me to be. Light within me, the fire of Your Holy Spirit that I might
bring another to You. Thank You for all that You have done in my life and all You will continue to do, for ask this
through Christ, my Lord and Savior. Amen.
