Honesty and humility. Both signs of reality. Honesty is when you are true to yourself as well as others. It is when you can size your life up, recognizing both your strengths and weaknesses, then admitting both. Humility is then the ability to share this information and understanding that your strengths and weaknesses offer a remarkable parity with the rest of humanity. One without the other usually means neither are truly present.
Hear the Good News, it is in our weakness that
we are strengthened by God. It is many times in our strengths that we
separate ourselves from God, due to our self reliance in our own ability.
Therefore, as we are honest to ourselves and are humble in our life, we will
be open to and allow God to be the one who directs us and strengthens us in
all of our endeavors. The truth of the matter is that as we understand both
our strengths and weaknesses, we understand that we fit in this world. Like
a piece of the puzzle, our weaknesses allow another's strength to be used
and nurtured. And by the participation of our brothers and sisters in our
life, we then are connected as one, one body, one Spirit, one God. Randy
Johnson, last night's winning pitcher in game two of the World Series, man,
he can pitch. A three hit shut out. 118 pitches. On the mound, it is harder
to find a more dominating pitcher. Pitching and fear, these are his
strengths. But, put him in the batter's box and he is humbled, he is brought
back into the realm of normalcy. He won last night, not in the batters box,
but on the mound, with the help of others, his teammates. Without the runs,
you lose, and this guy is not going to hit a home run. He needed others to
strengthen him in his weakness. In the same way we need God to strengthen us
in our weaknesses. Don't try to do it yourself, allow God to help. He
Honest, be humble, be you.
Prayer: Lord, honesty and humility, it is much easier when we
keep it to ourselves and even when we share it with only You. Help me to be
honest with You, myself and others, and give me the strength to share my
needs. In the same way, give me a heart of humility, that I would not think
too highly of myself and regard myself as a servant, with a servants heart,
in the hope that I can help to make a difference in the world. Thank You for
all that You have done in my life and all You will continue to do, for I ask
this through Christ, my Lord and Savior. Amen.
