Foundations, they keep the house stable, level and working. If the foundation is bad, the doors do not shut, the walls crack and furniture leans. A bad or unstable foundation can lead to leaks in the roof and windows. Windows may open but then not shut, or they may not open altogether. Heating and cooling may extend to the yard. In sports, foundations are often referred to as form or technique. With poor technique, an athlete can become injured or have a poor performance. Even in preaching or speaking, if there is poor preparation, the message is lost and the time wasted. Foundations, Techniques, Form, Preparation, all of these are virtually the same thing, they are the beginning, pointing to a successful end.
Hear the Good News, a foundation in Christ is something we are all offered and yet as rough as it might possibly get, it is that very foundation that will see you through any and all struggles. Paul, a he was responding to the church in Corinth, was responding to a "house" or a "body" that had a great foundation, but the walls and the roof, the rooms and the doors, they looked like they were having some problems. The real irony in this situation seems they, the Corinthians, felt the problems was the with foundation, not the other elements. What exactly was going on there is debatable, but the question for us is what does this foundation look like? What is it that we need for our own foundation. Is it the right denomination? Is one better than the other? Paul, he would day no. "What then is Apollos. What then is Paul? Servants through whom you came to believe, as the Lord assigned to each." I believe Paul would say to us, as he says in the Bible, to the the church in Ephesus; "lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with humility and gentleness, with patience, pearing with one another in love, making every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace." He continues with a faith statement that is the foundation of our faith and unity as Christians (Ephesians 4:4-7). Foundation, it is necessary and important in all you do. Oh, and even Nolan Ryan knows what to do when you get a crack in the foundation, you give it a lift. Looking for a good lift? Find the best lift available, this Sunday, at a church near you!
Prayer:
Lord, a lift, this is what I need. My foundation is in You, it will always be in You. Let all of the growth that takes place in my life and in my faith be consistent with the faith and hope that I have in Your Son Jesus Christ. When I feel like I am having foundation problems, give me a lift, and even if I can not recognize the need to address my foundation, I pray You will lift me anyway. Thank You for being there, thank You for all that You have done in my life and all You will continue to do, for I ask this through Christ, my Lord and Savior. Amen.
