"I will be a father to him, and he shall be a son to me. When he commits iniquity, I will punish him with a rod such as mortals use, with blows inflicted by human beings. But I will not take my steadfast love from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away from before you."
Thought:
Consistency is what we all look for and desire, unless it is going to cost
us. We say, treat me no different from another, yet we cry for exceptions to the rules. We look for loopholes, and at
times exaggerate or tell partial truths in hope that the decision we seek is the one found and accepted. But when we are
on the losing end of one of these points of exceptions, loopholes or injustices, we cry to the heavens seeking reparations.
Hear the Good News, of all the consistencies in the world, God is the cornerstone of what is true and what stays consistent.
In this passage, God makes a covenant with David, promising to hold close to David. God promises to instruct and fortify
David, but at the same time, God reminds and establishes the nature of His instruction and promises to David. Consistent.
Follow my rules. We must remember that as we are in a relationship with God, we too must adhere to what God wants and
expects of us. And though we may not always be able to live up to the standards God expects, we are to strive to do so,
accepting the consistent response God has for us. If you want God to be there, be in a relationship with Him, a 24/7,
real intimate relationship, not one of convenience, but one of consistent love and care.
Prayer:
Gracious God, You have offered to me a relationship surpassing all others. You extend a hand to me through Christ, strengthen me that I might be able to remain true to the relationship You and I have you. Thank You for all that You have done in my life and all You will continue to do, for ask this through Christ, my Lord and Savior. Amen.
